Tom Ossola graduated from the University of Colorado with a B.A. in Political Science and a Juris Doctor Degree .  He is admitted to the bar of the State of Colorado and the Federal District Court of Colorado.

Judge Ossola served in the U.S. Air Force and the United States Foreign Service before serving as a Deputy District Attorney and Deputy State Public Defender.  He maintained a general law practice in Glenwood Springs and was appointed to the Garfield County District Court in 1976 and the 9th Judicial District Court in 1980. He served as Chief Judge of the District and Water Judge for Water Division 5. 

During his tenure on the bench, Judge Ossola attended the National Judicial College and completed the course on Alternative Dispute Resolution. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the 9th District and Pitkin County Bar Associations.  Since retiring from the bench in 2004, he has maintained an active mediation practice through Judicial Resolutions and has served as a private judge in water cases.
